First World Problem # 1: Exercise Apparel

Monday rears it's ugly head once again and boy did I hate rolling out of bed this morning! I haven’t managed to do any early morning exercise on a Monday yet but perhaps this could be a way to combat my sluggishness? Maybe next week…

My exercise goals for this week are:
Monday- Pump 4.45pm
Tuesday- Weights explorer  at LM, Cardio 30 min
Wednesday- Body Balance 7.15am, Walk (5km)
Thursday- Pump 6.15am, Walk (5km)
Friday- Body Balance 12.10pm
Saturday- Shbam 11am
Sunday- REST

Having nice exercise gear is tantamount to maintaining an exercise regime in my opinion.
My pet peeve is how expensive good quality exercise gear is. My second pet peeve is how few and far between good exercise gear is for women sized 14 (NZ) and over.

As a HUGE bargain shopper and general proponent of the ‘More is more’ motto when it comes to shopping I can honestly say that I have given cheaper brands a fair run. I still use them and I understand that for many people they do the job perfectly well but I don’t get as excited about wearing them. At the end of the day I believe that with exercise gear you truly get what you pay for. I think this is due to the need for specialty performance fabrics with moisture wicking qualities and enough stretch to allow for mobility without going see through- this fabric just isn’t cheap.

Why oh why is it so hard to find FUNCTIONAL and PRETTY sports apparel in a size 14 and over? Given that the average size of a NZ woman is between a 14 and 16 the absence of flattering options for this demographic baffles me…Do fashion designers assume that fuller figured women are less likely to want to exercise? This seems nonsensical given the constant pressure for women to be thin…

One trick of the trade I am definitely guilty of is purchasing shoes or accessories that are one size fits all from the luxury brands or those that do not stock larger sizes in actual clothing- some of you may think this a cop out but if you want to have that special exercise item that lures you to the gym to show it off then I say why not?!

Nike Free runners LOVE the colours

Adidas by Stella McCartney-
My gym buddy Johanna has this AMAZING backpack.
I am super jealous!

Adidas, Nike, Running Bare and Lululemon all stock up to at least a size 14 (NZ). However the range of options is certainly not as diverse as that offered to women sized 6-12 NZ. I would love to hear any other suggestions readers may have of places to buy exercise gear or different brands to try so if you have any ideas please feel free to leave a comment!

Next on my wishlist- Crop tights from Lululemon.
Peace out,
