DID YOU MISS ME?!

Hello everyone- now before I get started I'm sorry this is so incredibly overdue...it has been a bit of a crazy fortnight but the most important thing is I am BACK and I intend to STAY!

I have had some real ups and downs the past few weeks which has culminated in me going back on my medication for depression- it seems that although I would like to aim to cope with exercise and positive lifestyle changes alone, I am not quite there yet. Being on medication brings with it the increased challenge of actively managing my weight gain (as opposed to just trying to lose weight) as I have experienced some major issues with my metabolism whilst on similar SSRIs. I am hopeful that the positive results will outweigh the negative side effects. Consequently, I am now even more focussed on using different types of goals and activities to measure my success, as opposed to the numbers on the scale.

I am still really enjoying the classes at Les Mills and I can definitely feel myself getting fitter and stronger but I decided that having an event to train for would be a wonderful way for me to keep myself motivated and on track with my fitness goals. I am not much of a runner so my natural inclination was to try an ocean swimming event HOWEVER the thought of training in a pool, let alone the sea in the Christchurch winter is very unappealing. I think I will leave the swimming goals for summertime! After some serious research I discovered an event that I think is perfect for me! A non competitive walking half marathon in support of the Cancer Society. The other awesome part of this event is that it is held at night- time under the stars! COOL! Check out the link here http://www.walkingstars.org.nz/

The event is to be held in Auckland on 30 November 2013 so I will have to come up for another weekend BOOHOO not! My partner-in-crime Pizey has also agreed to enter YAY! If there is anyone else reading this blog who would like to enter and do it with us please feel free to join! I intend to 'power walk' the event  so I am going to start looking for a good training programme I can adopt over the next month or so- any advice from experienced walkers or even runners would be appreciated! When I have entered officially I will post the link on the blog, all competitors must commit to raising at least $150 for the Cancer Society but I think we can do better than that can't we?!

Looking forward to beginning this new journey, still at the same weight but at least I haven't gained any right?, walk this evening to get the ball rolling!

Bye,
Chloe x
